About Us

Our Story

Our Church Building

First Church of the Nazarene was organized in Mineral Wells on May 13, 1913, just 5 years after the denomination was established in Pilot Point, Texas. It was first located on SE 2nd Street, and in 1943 moved to 515 SE 1st St to a building built by church members and soldiers from nearby Ft. Wolters. In 1954, the church moved into a new building at its current location. From this small congregation have come several ministers, professors and one General Superintendent. But our story is best told by the many souls won to Christ through the ministry of pastors and faithful laymen over the decades. May God keep us centered on our primary vision of making disciples.

Pastor Jane Hughes

Pastor Jane Hughes

Pastor Jane Hughes and her husband, L. J., joined the First Church of the Nazarene in Whitney, Texas in 2002. Shortly after a mission trip to Juarez, Jane answered the call to preach—a call first laid upon her heart at the age of six. Pastor Jane came to Mineral Wells First Church in November 2008 after serving as associate pastor in Whitney for over 2 years. She has completed the course of study through T.C.U. Brite Seminary, Nazarene Bible College and extension courses and was ordained in 2011.

Pastor Jane and L. J. have 3 children and 3 grandchildren and enjoy the mountains and traveling when their schedule allows. But Jane says that, “Pastoring and preaching the Word of God is the best vocation there is as I am given the blessed charge to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ and to care for the Body of Christ. This is what brings me the most joy.”
